How Does Percy Affect OBHWF?I was reading somewhere that OBHWF is no longer possible because of Percy’s estrangement from his family. In a way, it does create a rift in the family; it also sort of negates the “happy” part of One Big Happy Weasely Family. I don’t think this will have a long term affect on the viability on OBHWF. If nothing else, we’ve seen that you can’t count on anything in this series until you know the full story. Since none of us will know that story for a few months now, it isn’t really possible to say whether Percy will re-join the fold.
My personal belief/hope/whatever is that he will. I don’t have any evidence from the books to prove or support my opinion; it’s just a feeling. I’m not sure I believe that it will be anything so dramatic as my mother supposes, but I do think he’ll make good in the end. I suppose I hold this belief because of his mother and father. I can’t believe that Molly and Arthur could or would raise a son who could hold a grudge against his family for a lifetime. Simply, they raised him better than that.
Like anyone else, though, I can only guess and hope. And pine for the new book.

When I finished the series the first time, I passed the books onto my mom. She’s nearly as obsessed as I am. She’s already told her boss she’s taking the week of July 16th off so that she can spend it with HBP.
In the meantime, she’s been stewing over the books–much like anyone who’s anxiously waiting for the next installment–and she’s developed a theory. I call it the Saint Percy theory because of its nature. Essentially, my mom thinks that Percy’s been acting all along. That he’s really a spy for the Order and needed to seem at odds with his family and morally rigid so that he wouldn’t be suspected by the Ministry the way his father is. She figures that, in the end, Percy will be the big hero because of the work he’s been doing.
I agree that Percy will need to pull off some seriously heroic acts if he’s ever to be anything but the schmuck he seems. But I’m not sure I buy the idea that up until now he’s been acting the way he has merely to be a spy in the Ministry. What do I know though? So I suppose the Saint Percy theory is possible.
